Simlar has always been a personal passion project for me, something I have truly enjoyed working on since its inception in 2013. However, a few months ago I welcomed my son into the world and have decided to dedicate my free time to him.

While I will keep the servers running for now, I want to give a heads-up: If any major issues arise, I may need to shut them down without notice. In the meantime, I hope to find some time here and there to update the apps dependencies.

For the moment Simlar is still available (as always, at your own risk) but it is time to start exploring alternatives. <a href="https://signal.org">Signal</a>, <a href="https://element.io">Matrix (Element)</a>, and <a href="https://linphone.org/">Linphone</a> are all doing an excellent job.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to all users and especially the Simlar team - this project would not have been possible without you.

Simlar war schon immer ein persönliches Herzensprojekt für mich, an dem ich seit seiner Gründung im Jahr 2013 mit viel Freude gearbeitet habe. Vor ein paar Monaten erblickte jedoch mein Sohn das Licht der Welt und ich habe beschlossen, meine Freizeit ihm zu widmen.

Ich werde die Server vorerst weiterlaufen lassen, möchte aber vorwarnen: Sollten größere Probleme auftreten, kann es sein, dass ich sie ohne Vorankündigung abschalten muss. In der Zwischenzeit hoffe ich, hier und da etwas Zeit zu finden, um die Abhängigkeiten der Apps zu aktualisieren.

Im Moment ist Simlar noch verfügbar (wie immer auf eigene Gefahr). Aber es ist an der Zeit, sich nach Alternativen umzusehen. <a href="https://signal.org">Signal</a>, <a href="https://element.io">Matrix (Element)</a> und <a href="https://linphone.org/">Linphone</a> leisten alle Hervorragendes.

Ich möchte mich ganz herzlich bei allen NutzerInnen und besonders beim Simlar-Team bedanken - ohne Euch wäre dieses Projekt nicht möglich gewesen.

Protect your privacy and make free mobile phone calls over the internet with Simlar. Your calls are fully encrypted and tap-proof. Simlar is very easy to use. Just select your contact and call them! After installation, all of your contacts who also use Simlar will be listed in the app automatically. Maybe some of your friends already have Simlar. If not, you can invite them easily. Simlar is also available for iPhones.

Simlar is based on the established end-to-end encryption protocol ZRTP. No one can listen to your conversation, not even us. During your first call, you need to match a short code with the person you are speaking to. This protects against man-in-the-middle attacks and only needs to be done once per contact.

The app development is driven by the open source community. You can find the source code at simlar.org.

Simlar is free of charge. All you need is an internet connection. The more stable it is, the better your sound quality. The average “traffic” corresponds to 1 megabyte for a 2-minute call. For more details see simlar.org.
Mit Simlar schützt du deine Privatsphäre. Telefoniere verschlüsselt und kostenlos über das Internet. Die Bedienung ist einfach und intuitiv. Es funktioniert wie ganz normales Telefonieren: Kontakt auswählen und anrufen. Andere Simlar-Benutzer aus deinem Telefonbuch werden automatisch gefunden. Du wirst direkt sehen, wer schon Simlar installiert hat. Im Menü kannst du Freunde einladen. Simlar gibt es auch für das iPhone.

Simlar benutzt das bewährte Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselungsprotokoll ZRTP. Damit können deine Gespräche nicht mitgehört werden – auch nicht von uns. Beim ersten Anruf sollte einmalig ein vierstelliger Code abgeglichen werden. Dann ist diese Verbindung dauerhaft sicher.

Simlar ist eine freie Software und unterliegt der Open-Source-Lizenz GPL. Die Entwicklung von Simlar kann Schritt für Schritt nachvollzogen und geprüft werden. Der Quellcode ist auf simlar.org frei einsehbar.

Die beste Ton-Qualität erreichst du über WLAN. Simlar funktioniert auch über mobiles Internet. 2 Minuten Gesprächszeit entsprechen circa 1 MB Datenvolumen. Einzelheiten findest du in den FAQ auf simlar.org.
